2012 Re-Election Announcement
January 5th, 2012.  I will be seeking re-election this year, because I wish to help keep the state focused on fiscal discipline, especially considering the slow pace of economic recovery.

Georgia continues to be one of the most fiscally responsible states in the union, the result of hard work and difficult decisions.  So even though revenues are finally growing again, and perhaps for that very reason, we must remain committed to the kind of discipline that has lead the Tax Foundation to rank Georgia as the second lowest among the states in revenue extracted per capita, and third lowest in debt per capita.  This discipline has allowed us to remain one of less than 10 states that have the highest possible AAA bond rating by all three ratings agencies, all of which will be crucial as we make our way in an ever more competitive international economy.

I also plan on keeping a close eye on the various tax reform proposals being floated for this year's legislative session.  While I approve of high level goals of simplifying the system, as well as moving towards taxation of consumption and away from taxing income, I will nonetheless want to be sure we achieve those ends with fairness to all, and by making sure we fully offset new revenues with elimination of old ones.

Regarding other issues, please look at my Positions page.

I am committed to clean, issue oriented campaigning, and remain very grateful to the many wonderful people who deserve the real credit for making this campaign successful in years past.  I deeply appreciate their ongoing support.

New Maps
On December 23rd of 2011, the federal Department of Justice pre-cleared the new legislative district lines passed by Georgia in August 2011, which means that those maps will be in effect for 2012.

The new 112th House district is essentially the same as the district I have served since 2005, which will allow me to provide continuity of service and commitment if the people of Newton and Morgan counties send me back to the General Assembly.

You can look at the new 112th and its precincts here.

Below is a link to Georia's new maps for the state House, Senate and U.S. Congress.  Maps are available in a variety of formats.
