                                Our Future

While the recession has slowed the pace of change in Morgan and Newton Counties, one day growth will resume.  Our area will face dramatic changes.  Respected population experts predict that we will one day be in the center of a mega-city, extending from Birmingham to Charlotte, and Macon to Chattanooga.

This fact doesn't have to be a reason for dismay, however.  If we handle the changes well, I think we can be the marvelous, high quality heart of this vast urban area.

Morgan and Newton have wonderful southern charm, and both counties are already aware of the need to preserve that asset, along with the natural beauty of the area.

We also have the 4 county tech park, Stanton Springs; and either have, or are working on, land use plans:  all of which are designed to attract high tech, non-polluting industries, and keep traffic congestion to a minimum.

Such industries will broaden our tax base, making it possible to keep residential property tax rates under control.  Lower property taxes are a blessing we can all appreciate, since they keep the government away from the money you need for housing, health care, transportation, food, etc.!  Those new industries will also make it possible for our children to find prosperity right here at home, when they grow up.

Achieving this vision won't be easy, however.  We have some obstacles to overcome to create a bright future.  I'll walk you through those obstacles, and my plans for dealing with them on my Positions page.
